we're moving!

Hey everyone,

We're packing our needles and yarn and moving to Ning, a community website that includes a blog, a forum, photos and more. Because of the new Blogger and the fact that the group blog didn't transfer right, many members are unable to be a part of the blog. Hopefully this new system will work better for everyone and include even more than we were used to.

I sent out invites to everyone that was a member of the blog, those who tried to become members and anyone else at the meeting tonight. If you weren't at the meeting and haven't received an email but would like to join, please let me know or go to snbwbknits.ning.com. You should be able to join the group from there. I plan to be using site only for group announcements, so please join to get this information.

knit for dollas

Suzanne Juul has been knitting up. And now has her own line of knitted wears. Just look what you can do with a pair of needles. Check out SuzanneJuul.com to see what she's come up with. I'm not sure the styles are quite me, but I do like the shaping and the I'm-not-your-grandma's-knitted-sweater look. Obviously priced for a higher clientele though.

Hayden Panettiere and Mary Kate Olson have been seen sporting these little numbers around Hollywood. Wouldn't it be great to be richly fashionable? Ahh, alas, we humble knitters will have to resort to making these ourselves.

blog and flickr

In case you didn't know, members of SNBWB can participate in this blog as a contributor. What this means is, you can actually post messages instead of just commenting. This is cool because than everyone can share projects, yarn sales or anything else that you think your fellow stitchers may need to know.

Also, we have a group on Flickr (a photo hosting site) that enables us to share our project pics. The basic hosting membership is free and you can post quite a few pictures a month.

If you weren't at last night's meeting or haven't received an email to be a member of the blog or flickr, please email me and let me know. I'll be happy to add you.

Tomorrow, Monday, February 19 from 7-9 pm at Borders in Rice Lake Square. See you there!

happy birthday mandy!

Happy Birthday Mandy from your SNBWB pals!

Free patterns!

Of course, everyone knows about Knitty and MagKnits for free patterns. But did you know that Knitpicks has free patterns? They do. Some you have to pay for, but several are free. Interweave Knits also has a selection of free patterns on their site, including a knitted thong! Who would be without one in February.

A call for online pattern finds you say?

This is only going to be helpful if you want to knit dishcloths, but here are some cool things I found recently:

Monthly Dishcloth Knit-A-Long

Essentially there is a KAL that starts the 1st and the 15th of each month and when you join you get emailed about 10 lines of pattern for the dishcloth each day for about a week and at the end of the week you have a very useful pretty new dishcloth. I think it is kind of fun and useful if you have some cotton yarn that needs knit. There is also a database of past patterns and links to other dishcloth patterns here.

Also, if you join this Yahoo Group there are a bunch of free dishcloth patterns and some of them are kind of cool.

If you want more thoughts on dishcloths you can visit my blog and see my post from today.

I've posted this link before, but it is February so there is now a new issue if Magknits out with some new patterns if you are interested. Also, in case you haven't noticed, the Knitty Surprise is up for the Winter issue and not only are there multiple new patterns, there is also a new article.

hey oh, next meeting, ya'll

So our next meeting will be {drum roll, pwease} Monday, February 19th ... usual time ... usual place.

If you're interested in some crochet, the online Crochet Me magazine is pretty cool (and has great pictures, see above).

Weekly assignment: Share your online pattern finds with the rest of the group!
